The Big 3-0!

Eddie is a bit funny about age. He doesn't want to lose his twenties and he's trying to deny his thirties for as long as he can. Well...my old man is turning 30 in March and I'm doing a little research on what sort of cake we should celebrate it with :) So far, these are the ones I've seen that I like:

M&M covered vanilla frosted cake with the flavour of your choice. And we can add words on top too.

Vanilla frosted rainbow cake with vanilla macaroons. One of the specials from this lady. Looks pretty right?

The reason why they call it Rainbow cake :)

Doesn't it look gorgeous?
How about peanut butter and grape jelly flavour? Nah...Eddie's not that adventurous. This will just be a side order for me :)

Or should I just do something like this? HIs favourite team? Or is this too boring for his 30th birthday?
Or a cute Valentine cake?

Or something simple, sweet and classic like this? Beautiful.

Chapter Four: And baby makes three :)

The First Trimester

I suspected that I might be pregnant at the beginning of November 2010. My period was 10 days late, but when I took the first home pregnancy test it was negative. My friend told me it might be because it's too early, so wait a few more days before taking the test again. I took three more home pregnancy tests after a few days and they were all positive.

On 6 December 2010, I waited impatiently in the waiting area for my doctor to arrive. There were two women before me, and the wait felt like an eternity. Besides, I'd been throwing up the last few mornings and on this morning, I felt like throwing up more then ever. When the doctor called me into the office, I anticipated chit chat on updates but she was already waiting for me in the scanning room. Not two minutes later, there it was...a tiny little seed and a yolk sac that was 6 weeks old.

When I showed Eddie the picture of the scan when he came home from work later that night, he was immediately happy and almost at the same time, immediately cautious. He told me I couldn't tell anyone and we had to keep quiet about the pregnancy until after 3 months. I felt like shouting it to the world...but he was right. Six more weeks wasn't that long right?

After telling my parents, I had to almost push him to tell his parents. He was so afraid to jinx it if he told anyone. But on the weekend as I sat after my Asar prayers, I saw him dial his phone and went into the bathroom. Immediately suspiscious of who he was calling, I went to the bathroom door to eavesdrop. I heard him say, "A'ah Ayah...dia ada muntah2 sikit..." Then I turned around and pretended not to have heard anything.

The next six weeks proved to be somewhat challenging. I was naseous all the time and I had no appetite to eat. And almost anything I ate came back out. I was also feeling extremely exhausted all the time. I could nap four times a day and still be tired enough to sleep early during the night. Besides not being able to shout to the world the good news I was hiding, I was also anticipating the next doctor's appointment.

On 8 January 2011, Eddie and I headed out to the doctor. I was half excited because I had no idea what to expect and I was half afraid because I'd been feeling so good the last few days that I was afraid something was wrong. Eddie looked extremely nervous...and why wouldn't he be? This was his first time seeing his baby :)

The moment I saw the baby my jaw dropped. It wasn't a tiny seed anymore. It had a head, body, spine, legs and hands. And it looked like a baby! In my awe, she also told us the baby was growing ahead of schedule, which was good, and I was 12 weeks and 3 days. She also told us that the baby was 6cm from head to rump and is a boy! Eddie was surprised as he'd thought his first born would be a girl, but before he could say anything, the doctor let us hear his heart beat and we all just shut up to hear him :)

Chapter Three: Our Wedding (s)

Akad Nikah: 3 July 2010
We were solemnised as husband and wife on Saturday, 3 July 2010 at approximately 9.20pm. The moment had finally come! We had been to, witnessed and helped at four other weddings since we'd known each other that it didn't seem real. But it did. It finally happened. And I couldn't have been happier.

Eddie cuak. Hehehehee...

Wedding Reception: 4 July 2010
This night was dedicated mostly to our friends. Mine and his who have known us as separate people, and who have come to love us as a couple (or at least that's what they say ;p)

Wedding Reception at Groom's Side: 10 July 2010
A week after we became husband and wife, we travelled down to Eddie's kampung where we were once again celebrated with family and friends. This one felt a bit more 'personal' to me.

Chapter Two: 010110

We got engaged on a Saturday, and on the very first day of 2010 - almost a year after Eddie's family came for the merisik. There's not much to be said, so I'll let the photos speak for themselves :)

Chapter One: It All Begins From the Past

24 January 2008
We were sitting that morning in a mamak behind Pavilion. He was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt and black pants. I was wearing a white short-sleeved T-shirt with a colourful skirt that fell to my ankles. He was going in to work at 3pm, and we only had a few hours left before he had to go home and change. We were waiting for our maggi goreng when he took his phone out, looked at the calendar and said that it was a good date for us to set a commitment to each other. No playing around, no games...this is it.
13 March 2008
It was his 27th birthday and he wanted to celebrate it with his sisters. I was afraid to meet them, but he took my hand anyway and led the way. Ijah and Imah were already at Secret Recipe when we arrived. And by the look on their faces, I don't think Eddie told them he was bringing me. It felt like a big step for me, especially when all I did that night was sit quietly (from shyness and fear) while Ijah made the extra effort of trying to talk to me. And I guess it was a big step for him too...because he couldn't stop thanking me for coming along after that.

Imah was getting engaged and he wanted to take me back to his kampung to meet his family. His...whole...family. At first I refused to go and said that I don't need to be there. But he said that if he could make the effort to meet my family on my birthday, then I could make the effort to meet his family on a special ocassion. I think I was more in shock and awe then his parents when we arrived. And to make things worse, as soon as he introduced me to everyone, he left me...alone! He told me later that he did that on purpose so I would have to mingle with everyone. I guess it did the trick because now he complains that his family always come to me first before going to him :)

I was seated by myself at the corner in Ayah's house at my very first visit when he took Imah's phone and snapped this picture :)

Ummi putting the ring on my finger to 'book' me before our engagement
His family came to ask my parents hand in marriage, and as they arrived, I sat at the top of the stairs trying to hear what was being said. All I heard was light mumbling and then roars of laughter. Till today, the only thing I know that happened during the conversation was from what Eddie's Ayah and Ijah = that Papa was funny. Also, there was a new ring on my finger :)
